STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — For the past two months, reality-TV fans have watched contestants on the CW’s “Shedding for the Wedding” engage in exercise routines and healthy living in an attempt to win their dream wedding.

Even though the show ended last week with middle-school sweethearts Sam and Brooks Houser taking home the top prize, that doesn’t mean your own thinspirations for the big day have to go by the wayside.

From bridal boot camps to at-home personal training, there are numerous way to achieve the wedding body of your dreams…
…Another way to shed for the wedding is with the Bridal Body Shop, a new program launched April 1 that brings the trainer to clients’ homes. An offshoot of Physical Advantage in Manhattan, it’s run by trainer and New Springville resident Elite Ziegelman and Physical Advantage founder Laurie Towers.

Described as “traveling trainers,” Ms. Ziegelman explained that they’ll bring whatever they need — whether it’s kettlebells, TRX, yoga mats, jump ropes — to their trainees’ homes for a program that’s designed specifically for them. They’ll also work with the bride and groom together as well as with members of the bridal party.

“A lot of people are intimidated by going to the gym,” Ms. Ziegelman noted. “When we come to their home, they feel more comfortable.”

During sessions, the instructors will mix muscle work and cardio, playing off what each person likes and what they hope to achieve. If the brides and grooms want to tone up, they’ll do more muscle work, the trainer explained, or if they want to lose weight, the sessions will put more cardio on their plate with strength training added in.

The trainers will also give advice on healthy eating, something numerous people find more daunting than working out. “It’s about making them stay in shape the rest of their lives,” she said, “not just for the event.”
